EAP-SIPPAP presented at the ‘European village’ in chisinau

Every year on 9 May, ‘Europe Day’ is celebrated across the region. It is a unique occasion to celebrate common values as well as the richness of Europe's cultural diversity.

In Moldova, a ‘European Village’ was created for this occasion in central Chisinau and ICMPD hosted one of the 36 stands. ICMPD’s Local Representative to Moldova, Diana Hincu, presented the EaP-SIPPAP project to the wider public.

High level officials including Moldova’s President Nicolae Timofti, Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici, Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca and the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova as well ambassadors of 13 EU member countries participated in this event.

In their statements, all Moldovan state officials underlined that European integration is a priority of Moldovan government, as it would spur economic development, ensure peace and safety, and contribute to building a transparent and democratic society.

The EU Ambassador, Mr. Pirkka Tapiola, stated in his opening speech that all stakeholders present in Chisinau will meet again in two weeks at the Riga Summit to reconfirm their commitment to develop this relationship and pursue essential reforms.

The stands located in the European Village displayed information regarding ongoing EU-funded projects in a variety of sectors and provided Moldova, EU Member States and candidate countries with the opportunity to share their culture, gastronomical specialties, language and dancing. Cultural events held throughout the afternoon, and the evening concert contributed to the festive atmosphere of the event.
